Commonality Can Be Good or Bad...You Choose

Day 4: Genesis 11:1-32

Commonality when used for good will make communities better. When people value love over hate it becomes a positive difference maker.

When commonality is used to hurt others, it creates a society of fear. It will put a tight grip on a community and control its every move.

When commonality is used to make a name for themselves or create a society about notoriety and fame, it places themselves higher than God and diminishes their need for God.

In Genesis 11, the people used their oneness in language for their own benefit, rather than for God's glory. Instead of using their commonality to create cities to promote God's goodness, they decided to create a city that promoted their own power and abilities. Their motives to build a city with a massive tower to reach the heavens were selfish at best.

God isn't interested in mankind promoting their own greatness; rather, he is about mankind seeking humility and promoting love, kindness, goodness and grace.

People who work together to help each other, provide for the poor, love their neighbors and worship God together will be a community that is sustained by contentment for who God created them to be.
